Christmas Stovetop Potpourri

Oh, the smells of Christmas, pine, orange, cinnamon and more! I am slightly obsessed with all things scented Christmas; every year I buy all the Yankee candles, room sprays, and soaps. I LOVE IT!! Wouldn’t it be nice to make your own natural custom scents in your kitchen that are not made with potentially harmful ingredients? You can! There are endless possibilities you can try, but if you are looking to make your home smell like a Hallmark Christmas movie, I gotcha covered!

The first time I made this Christmas stovetop potpourri was on a night we were decorating the Christmas tree as a family. We had Christmas music on, cookies in the oven and the kids were in their Christmas pajamas. I put the potpourri on the stove and it completed the whole magical experience. This recipe will make your whole house smell amazing. I was pleasantly surprised with the potency of the fragrance.

What You Will Need to Make Christmas Stovetop Potpourri

  • 1-2 Oranges
  • 1 cup Fresh Cranberries
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1-2 tablespoons Whole Cloves
  • 2 tablespoons Rosemary, fresh or dried.

Instructions

First, bring a small to medium-sized pot of water to simmer, then while you wait for the water to simmer slice your oranges and prepare the rest of your ingredients. Next add your sliced oranges and the rest of your ingredients to your simmering water. Leave the potpourri on a simmer for a continued release of Christmas scent. Add water whenever the water level starts getting low, this was about once an hour for me. If you let it run dry the potpourri will burn and no longer smell good. I may or may not have done this.

I used our Christmas stovetop potpourri for about 5 hours that night and the scent remained just as strong the whole time. The next morning, I reheated it and it smelled just as good!  I will have this simmering on the stove on Christmas when the whole family is over, my home will feel like a Hallmark Christmas movie!
