Easy DIY Outdoor Christmas Decor Ornaments

Is it just me or is the cost of Christmas decor going through the roof? Or maybe I am just now aware since I have three kids and have to go all out for these things?? Either way, it’s expensive! I am a huge fan of anything DIY and saving money (who isn’t) so I turned to Pinterest for some DIY inspiration. There are so many cute ideas out there for easy DIY outdoor Christmas decor! I stumbled across a few ideas about making giant Christmas ornament decorations for outside and was hooked, and immediately got to work.

These adorable giant ornaments are made out of beach balls!  I read several different blogs that said they used balls from stores like the Dollar Store or Walmart, I did not have any luck finding balls this size in December so I had to get creative. I also didn’t want to spend a ton of money since the reason I am doing this is to save money. After some Amazon suffering, I got the idea to use beach balls! You can buy packs of beach balls, I had no idea. I bought a back of solid white ones to spray paint them the colors I wanted. Overall they turned out super adorable! Read on for the complete instructions on how to make these festive DIY Outdoor Christmas Decor Ornaments.

Instructions

To begin you will inflate your beach balls, I used a small hand air pump I had on hand so I wouldn’t keel over blowing them all up. Next, get your spray paint and cover the entire ball. I did not have a great method for this, I sat them on a flattened box and sprayed them, once dried I rolled them over and sprayed the other side. I’m sure there is a better way but hey, it worked.

While your balls are drying you will prepare the ornament toppers.  First, poke a hole in the top of the cups for the string to go through later. Next, spray your cups and let them dry fully.

Once all your painted pieces are completely dry you are ready for the next steps. Gather your hot glue gun, string, ribbon, painted beach balls and cups. First, pull a long piece of the string, (I cut about 2 feet for each) through the top of each cup and tie a knot. Next, put a thin line of hot glue along the rim of the cups and press onto the beach ball. I recommend gluing the cups to the opposite side of the ball from where you blow them up, this way you can add more air later if needed. Hold in place for 30 seconds while the glue sets. Be careful not to use too much glue all at once, I did on one of the balls and it melted a hole through it. Once your cup is secured to the ball you can hot glue ribbon around the cup if you would like. I used sparkly ribbon and it turned out so pretty!

Ready to Hang

After you have finished all your ornaments they are ready to be hung. I used command strips to hang them on our front porch and I put them at varying lengths.

Overall, I am very happy with how these DIY outdoor Christmas Decor Ornaments turned out, they aren’t something that you commonly see, they are fun for the kids and they were budget-friendly!
