Here we are again, that glorious pumpkin spice season; school is back in session, the days are getting shorter and crisper and it’s time to do our fall cleaning. In the fall I like to do a big deep clean of the house to get it ready for winter, just like in the springtime. All summer the kids are running in and out, countless of their friends are always at the house and it takes a beating. So, every fall, once the kids are back in school and we are settling into our more “indoor” routine I do my big fall clean.

Floors
First things first, the floors. My floors are DESTROYED after all the in and out of summer! I start by spreading baking soda carpet powder on all the carpets and large rugs. I let this sit for at least 15 minutes. Some of these powders also smell amazing and the smell lasts for the rest of the day. Next, I do a good vacuum followed by carpet shampoo. We have a home carpet shampooer that works great but I like to recommend getting your carpets professionally cleaned once to twice a year, if you can afford it. If you are using a home shampooer, I recommend using Oxi Clean Large Carpet Cleaner solution. I have tried countless different solutions and this one is by far my favorite. The shampooer that we have, and love is this one Bissel Carpet Cleaner.

Deep Clean Fridge and Pantry
Next on my deep clean agenda is the pantry and refrigerator. Ugh, this one makes me groan to just think about it. With five people living in my house, I have basically given up on trying to keep either of these organized, but I do like to do a good cleaning a few times a year. With the pantry I start by removing EVERYTHING. Be ready, your kitchen is going to be a mess, but in the end it will be worth it. Then I use a soapy rag and wash down all the shelves and use a disinfecting spray after. Make sure you let your spray fully dry to insure max disinfecting. I go through all the food and toss anything that is expired. I am always amazed by some of the things that I find, like when did I buy those BBQ pork rinds that now have cobwebs? Then I start putting everything back where I think it should go. Don’t be fooled, no one in my house will agree on placement of anything so, it won’t stay this way for long. Good luck to you with this 😉. I do like having containers and bins for everything, I feel like this helps with keeping things organized. Now on to the fridge, I check dates on all the condiments and toss what’s old; again, I take everything out. Then I scrub, and scrub until it shines like new 😊. I use a disinfecting cleaner in the fridge too, since there are meats and such that go in there.
Clean Those Closets
Closets are next. Especially the kids closet. I donate all clothes that are too small or not worn and bring out the next season’s wear. If it’s good for next year, I will put it in a tote and to the basement it goes. Vacuum out the cobwebs and move on.

Sanitize and Disinfect High-Traffic Areas
After decluttering your space for a fresh start, the next step is to focus on sanitizing and disinfecting high-traffic areas in your home. This is especially important during the fall season when cold and flu viruses are more prevalent. Use disinfectant wipes or sprays to clean doorknobs, light switches, countertops, and other surfaces that are touched frequently. Pay extra attention to areas where germs can easily spread, such as the kitchen and bathroom. By keeping these areas clean and germ-free, you can create a healthier environment for you and your family.
Revive Your Furniture and Decor
Revive Your furniture and decor by giving them a little extra attention this fall season. Deep clean your upholstery to remove any built-up dirt and odors, dust off shelves and surfaces to freshen up your living space, and consider adding a few new decorative pieces to give your home a fresh new look. After sprucing up your furniture and decor, it’s time to create a cozy atmosphere with fall accents.
Create a Cozy Atmosphere with Fall Accents
After sprucing up your furniture and decor, it’s time to create a cozy atmosphere with fall accents. As the weather starts to cool down, bring in warm tones and textures to your home to make it feel inviting and comfortable. Think about adding plush throw blankets, soft pillows in autumn hues, and scented candles with notes of cinnamon or pumpkin spice. You can also incorporate natural elements like pinecones, acorns, and dried leaves to bring a touch of the outdoors inside. By layering these fall accents throughout your home, you can create a warm and welcoming space that is perfect for the changing season.
Windows
Windows are up next. Obviously, you clean your windows throughout the year but how often do you clean the outside of all your windows? Fall cleaning is the perfect time. You will actually be able to see those pretty leaves out there! For windows that are too high to reach you can get a solution to attach to your hose to spray them off, I like this one, this isn’t as good as a good ol’ hand scrubbing but it is better than nothing!
Air Filter
Now, change those air filters, especially if you ran your AC all summer. You are going to want those heaters working in top notch pretty soon.
Scrub The Walls
Time to scrub them walls. For this I use my spin mop, which I am OBSESSED with. I had some Fabulosa and boiling water for the solution and then just run the mob over the walls. I am always surprised how dirty the water is by the time I’m done, like gross.
