Washing your kitchen cabinets is one of those chores that can get pushed off and forgotten until you are standing in your kitchen and realize your once beautiful cabinets are coated in dust, fingerprints, oil splatters, food particles, and grime. Washing your cabinets can seem like a daunting task; how do you clean your cabinets? What is safe to use on your cabinets? How often do you need to deep clean your cabinets? Read on for how to clean your kitchen cabinets.

In my kitchen, I have beautiful brown wood cabinets and I wanted to make sure that whatever I used on them would clean them sufficiently without causing any damage or breakdown to the wood. I did some internet digging and came up with several different ways to complete this job, so I tested a few different ways and I’m here to give you the breakdown of my results. With any cleaners, it is recommended to do a spot test first to make sure it doesn’t damage whatever it is you are cleaning.

Dawn Dish Soap and Water

This was probably the most basic method that I read about, but Dawn dish soap hasn’t failed me yet so I gave this method a shot. To begin, I got a bowl of sudsy warm water with dish soap and a soft kitchen sponge. Then I just washed and scrubbed away. I followed by wiping down each panel with a microfiber rag to remove all the soap.  This worked well, it cut through the grease, fingerprints, and grime without a problem. It was kind of messy with soapy water dripping everywhere though but, it’s a cheaper method than buying fancy wood cleaners. Overall, I would rate this method a 4 out of 5 since it did a great job getting the cabinets clean, it’s cost-effective but it was a little messy.

Method Daily Wood Cleaner

On half of my cabinets, I used Method Daily Wood Cleaner. I sprayed a panel and then used a microfiber cloth to scrub and wipe it away. Super easy and it worked fairly well. It removed oils and grease without a problem but it did take a little more rubbing to complete the job.  I liked the scent of this product, it was almond which was nice. Overall I rate this one a 3.5 since it worked but I don’t think as well as the soapy water, it was relatively inexpensive but more than just dish soap. I feel this would be an excellent product to use frequently on your cabinets but for a deep clean, Dawn dish soap and water worked better.

Final Touches

On all the cabinets I did a final layer wipe down with Old English to give them a nice shine and protected coat. I love this stuff, it’s a nice finishing touch to clean cabinets.  It also helps cut down on dust accumulation.

Unconventional Kitchen Cupboard Cleaning Hacks

Lemon Juice Freshness

One more unconventional way to keep your kitchen cabinets looking fresh and clean is by using lemon juice. This natural cleaning agent not only leaves a refreshing scent but also helps to cut through grease and grime on your cabinets. Simply mix lemon juice with a bit of water and apply it to your cabinets using a clean cloth or sponge. Gently scrub the mixture onto the surface, focusing on any areas that need extra attention. After wiping away the lemon juice with a damp cloth, you’ll be left with cabinets that look and smell amazing. Next, discover how coffee grounds can be used to polish your cabinets to a sparkling shine.

Coffee Ground Polish

Another surprising way to bring a brilliant shine to your kitchen cabinets is with coffee grounds. Yes, the same grounds you use to brew your morning cup of coffee can also work wonders on your cabinets. The coarse texture of coffee grounds acts as a gentle abrasive, perfect for scrubbing away stubborn stains and residue. Simply sprinkle some grounds onto a damp cloth and gently rub them onto the cabinet surfaces. The grounds will help buff out any dull spots and leave your cabinets looking polished and renewed. Plus, the natural oils in coffee can add a subtle shine to your cabinets, giving them a fresh and inviting appearance. Now, let’s explore how soy sauce can further enhance the luster of your cabinets.

Soy Sauce Shine

If you’re looking for a unique way to make your kitchen cabinets shine, consider using soy sauce. This savory condiment can do more than just add flavor to your dishes – it can also help bring out the natural luster of your cabinets. The rich color and high salt content of soy sauce make it an effective natural cleaner and polisher. Simply dab a small amount onto a soft cloth and gently buff it onto your cabinet surfaces. The soy sauce will help remove dirt and grime while leaving behind a subtle shine. Just be sure to wipe off any excess and buff the cabinets dry to prevent any stickiness.
